Cognition pushes language acquisition and usage in context. What is the point of having verbal ability/speech and little or no communication in the pragmatic sense. Speech and Language are a package much in the same way as eyes & sight!
Very informative article indeed job of speech therapist is challenging yet development of nonverbal children is unpredictable. My learning so far with my grandchild & sessions with various speech therapists are two salient ways
1. parallel talks &
2 . continue talking to build up their understanding at cerebral cortex level.
